Writing specifications
The environmental impact of hydraulic fluids, lubricants and concrete release agents needs to be reduced to a minimum. Clients should be aware of the options that are available to them and should know their responsibilities when formulating specifications that promote the use of biolubricants in order to minimize the environmental damage caused by loss lubrication or spills. While the technical performance of the service or installation should be the main concern, the supplier/contractor should be able to demonstrate that there are no environmentally-friendlier alternatives available, if a mineral lubricant or hydraulic fluid is chosen. By establishing this in the specifications, suppliers/contractors are encouraged to take the use of biolubricants into serious consideration.
